It is not every day that we get to see a black panther wandering around. For years, they were believed to be some kind of mythical creature. And for the longest time, the only black panther that we knew was The Jungle Book’s Bagheera.

However, a black panther has reportedly been, for the first time ever, caught on camera in Goa Sanctuary.

Apparently, someone captured a photo of a black panther at Patiem beat in Netravali wildlife sanctuary, South Goa, and uploaded it online. The image has gone viral since then. Pramod Sawant, Chief Minister of Goa, shared the picture of the black big cat walking around the wildlife sanctuary of the state.

A report stated that an official working in the forest department said that they were finding out whether this cat was the only black panther or there were other black panthers living in the area. The official added that this was the first time that someone snapped a photo of a black panther in the wildlife sanctuary which was mainly inhabited by tigers.

Once Internet users learned about the rare sighting of the big cat, they were in awe.

Black panthers are actually the spotted Indian Indian leopard’s color variant. Because it’s a creature of the dark, it isn’t common for people to spot it in daylight, thus making the sight so rare.
