For over a year, Mike Campadore, a systems administrator and Apple enthusiast had been keeping all the iMac boxes of the new computers that the university ordered. His ultimate plan was to have a collection of boxes that is enough to make a gigantic wheel out of them.
Once Campadore had collected enough boxes, he, together with some of his colleagues, started building the iWheel. When it is complete, they took it out for a spin. The photo which was shared by the marketing team of the University received more than 3 million views.
The iWheel has a weight of 120 pounds, which is about 54 kilograms. The height of this wheel is double the height of an average person. To complete it, Campadore had to use a lot of tapes.
However, because the small hole inside the wheel made it difficult for Campadore to move by himself, he needed to ask Rich Bass, his colleague to push from the back.
