On Friday, after news about President Donald Trump contracting COVID-19 broke out, sales of masks, disinfecting wipes, and thermometers on Amazon skyrocketed, according to data from Jungle Scout.

Sales of a medical oral thermometer from Femometer increased by 248%. 1,933 units were sold on Friday alone, up from Thursday’s sales of 556.

Solimo – Amazon’s brand of disinfecting wipes saw its sales skyrocketing by 899% with 829 units sold compared to the previous day’s 83 units.

Many face mask brands saw their sales jumped by over 75%. Other merchandises seeing an increase in demand include Clorox Disinfecting Wipes, fingertip pulse oximeters, and Vitafusion Gummy Vitamins.

A Jungle Scout’s representative said the increase in sales for particular products, not categories.

Trump’s administration has been under fire for not taking precautions to prevent COVID-19 from spreading. The president keeps holding rallies and he himself didn’t usually wear masks in public.

On Friday, cruise lines and airlines stocks fell sharply after the president was tested positive for COVID-19.

It seems like the news of Trump contracting COVID-19 serves as a reminder that anyone could get the virus.

Several companies have spent months preparing for the second wave of the pandemic with a spike in sales.
