Scientist Took Mesmerizing Pictures Of Underwater Aliens Below The White Sea

Below the ice of the White Sea, there are other-worldly creatures that most of us have never seen before in our lives

A Russian marine biologist, Alexander Semenov, spent 40 minutes under the water of the White Sea and captured mesmerizing images of marine aliens – ocean creatures we have never seen before.

What he caught on camera are a luminescent jellyfish with lion mane, pink tentacles and a blue body measuring 15 meters and a golden ragworm shaped like an intestine.

According to Semenov, these creatures have been floating in the sea for millions of years and evolution has given them weird features.

The White Sea, where the marine biologist took these photos, is one of the most remote and pristine places left on our planet.

It is among the four seas with English color names. The others are the Yellow Sea, the Red Sea, and the Black Sea.

The research center where Semenov bases is also hard to reach. It was founded in 1938 by a team of biologists. Poyaknda is the nearest village, which is around 16 kilometers away.

In the summer and winter, the only access are by boat and snowmobiles respectively.

According to Semenov, the surface of the White Sea is covered by snow for up to six months a year. The biggest obstacle he faced when working there was the tidal current, which could carry divers 1.6 kilometers away from their starting point after just an hour under water.

This is what he had to bear in mind at all time when diving under the ice. Even with a safety rope on, the strong current could sweep him away.

Even with that much danger, the marine biologist was still willing to take the risk to see how these creatures have evolved to adapt to the environment after they were cut off from their cousins living in other parts of the ocean.

Below the ice of the White Sea, there are other-worldly creatures that most of us have never seen before in our lives; for example, the jellyfish with lion mane, which is the largest in the world. Its tentacles can grow to reach 36 meters long and take the shape of way human hair.

The mouth of the creatures are under its bell-shaped body, surrounded by eight clusters consisting of up to 150 tentacles each.

Stunning as they may seem, these tentacles are filled with poison to help the jellyfish paralyzes its preys. Since it has the bioluminescent abilities. The jellyfish can glow in the dark.

Semenov said it was amazing seeing a jellyfish with a dome measuring 0.9 meters in diameter and tentacles 15m long. According to him, some creatures can match the height of a 12-story building.
