Warfare is where the most innovative technologies are born as each country is working continuously to create the most capable and advanced armaments to protect their homelands. And apparently, science-fiction has been an inspiration for the latest, greatest advancement in the area of future weaponry and military hardware that envision a dangerous world of warfare in the coming years. With that in mind, these are the 28 incredibly futuristic weapons and modern fighting vehicles.
1. Hybrid Insect Micro-Electro-Mechanical System (HI MEMS)
While it looks like a bug mounted with a circuit board, this is actually a cyborg bug that took decades to develop. Since the 40s, scientists have been working on MEMS and MAVs (Micro Air Vehicles), which are basically cyborg winged creatures.
At the pupae and larva stage, insects are implanted with technologies for the most likelihood of viability. They are perfect for tracking tasks and surveilling enemy bodies.
2. High Energy Laser Mobile Demonstrator (HEL MD)
This weapon can blast enemy drones out of the sky. The 10kW laser weapon can be mounted on a vehicle to be transported to the needed location. As it used a diesel generator along with lithium-ion batteries, it’s easy to use and maintain this laser weapon.
Boeing is working to make HEL MD more powerful so that it can be used for taking down incoming rockets, artillery strikes, and mortar.
3. Electromagnetic Rail Gun
This monster cannon results from a process of development and tests for over a decade. It can fire projectiles at a speed of more than 7,242 km/h as well as smash through concrete structures that are 160 kilometers away.
This weapon is considered the future of warfare because they rely on laser energies instead of explosive materials as well as controlled explosions like conventional devices. That means it has a longer range and greater accuracy. However, it requires a lot of power.
4. Personnel Halting And Stimulation Response (PHASR) Rifle
This is a non-lethal device temporarily blinds and disorients targets. The low-intensity laser beam fired from this rifle features a blinding effect, perfect for various situations in which we want to disable the enemy target.
5. Human Universal Load Carrier (HULC)
This exoskeleton suit, which is powered by hydraulic energy, supports soldiers during a fight and allows them to carry heavy loads in case of extended fighting time without tiring them out.
Apart from that and decreasing injury risk for soldiers, the design of this suit also maintains the full motion range for wearers while still featuring other technologies like cooling and heating systems, armor, and custom attachments.
6. Laser Avenger
We can attach this aerial defense weapon to a vehicle and shoot down UAVs of the enemy. Different from traditional weaponry used for taking down aircraft, this system doesn’t generate a smoke trail or muzzle flare when firing, which means we can use it from concealed positions.
7. Laser Weapon System (LaWS)
It’s basically a ship-mounted with laser cannons. The system allows soldiers to pinpoint a target and destroy enemy assets.
Using a laser weapon system is also more efficient and more cost-effective than using current projectile weaponry because it requires just sufficient power for firing.
8. Precision-Guided Firearms
The precision-guided firearms carry the responsibility for taking missile lock-on system from fighter jets then applying them to systems of traditional long-range rifles. Using heads-up display technologies, advanced fire control, and target tracking, these firearms guide a bullet to the target and ensure a greater probability of target-hitting in the first time, even from a long distance.
9. Black Knight Unmanned Combat Vehicle
This is a prototype for unmanned combat vehicles, which looks like a small tank with matching firepower. It has coaxial machine gun measuring 7.62 mm across and a 30mm cannon, and we can deploy it from a military transport aircraft.
Similar to MAARS, this vehicle is meant for high-risk situations so that we don’t have to send human troops to unnecessary danger. However, there’s still a lot of improvement to work on, including wireless communication, GPS, as well as sensors.
10. Modular Advanced Armed Robotic System (MAARS)
This system was created to save soldiers’ lives while handling situations that are too dangerous to human arms.
They can carry a 400 round M240B machine gun and a grenade launcher; it can also drag soldiers with injuries from the danger. With the highest speed of 11.2 km/h, the robot is able to march alongside the troops as well as can work for 12 hours on one charge.
11. TASER Shockwave
This is a denial system applied for a large area to assist in controlling riots. Essentially, the system includes X26 stun guns which are in an arc of 20 degrees and a range of 7.62 meters.
In addition, the TASER can be chained with other units to cover a wider area as well as threaten rioters more effectively.
12. Magneto Hydrodynamic Explosive Munition (MAHEM)
Developed by DARPA, using a magnetic flux generator, the MAHEM fires a projectile without relying on the traditional chemical explosives, which means we have a more precise and efficient launch system. Additionally, the MAHEM utilizes molten metal in penetrating enemy armored vehicles for greater effectiveness and lethality in the fight.
13. CV90120-T Ghost
This is a Swedish camouflaged tank which utilizes the ADAPTIV camouflage of BAE to appear invisible to the thermal imaging system of the enemy. In addition, this tank features a high-caliber compact primary cannon measuring 120 mm across which uses a new tech that reduces recoil and lowers the total weight.
As a result, we have a medium fighting tank that’s powerful and nimble at the same time. Theoretically, the tank’s bleeding-edge tech lets users take the first strike before being detected by the enemy.
14. ADAPTIV camouflage
Your enemy cannot shoot something they cannot see. With that idea, the BAE Systems ADAPTIV camouflage was created to mask the infrared signature of a military vehicle and prevent them from being detected by blending in the surroundings. Essentially, this tech makes thermal imaging systems invisible as well as makes sure allied fighting vehicles have protection against initial detection.
With an appearance like honey-comb, ADAPTIV is a system which we can install in any vehicle’s modules and heat or cool them for matching the surroundings. Also, the system can help with highlighting allied vehicles and preventing accidents where we fire at our allies.
