In the video, you can also see the drones are remotely directed with a tablet-like device. A hidden insider of the People’s Liberation Army told the publication that the truck was part of the military-civilian fusion strategy of the Chinese government. The source said:

“They’re still in the early development stage and the technical problems are yet to be resolved. One of the key concerns is the communications system and how to stop it from getting jammed. The military has found that the artificial intelligence it uses is too slow to react.”

On the other hand, reports from The Times said that the drones are created to target tanks, troops, among other armored vehicles, and CAEIT has carried out similar tests before.

In November 2017, CAEIT conducted the largest experiment of its kind, featuring 200 small fixed-wing aircraft.

According to the South China Morning Post, the unmanned aircraft looks like the CH-901, the first tactical attack drone of China that’s 1.2 meters long and 9 kilograms heavy. The CH-901 can travel at 150 km/h. In addition, it can fly for 2 hours before detonating.

Media outlets did not say what the new drones were meant for or whether other countries should worry. But these drones can pose great dangers for their capability of overwhelming air defense systems.
