The Xiaomi A series has just been added a new member named Mi A3. This is the next-gen smartphone of the series produced by the cooperation between Xiaomi and Google, which runs the original Android version instead of Xiaomi's customized MIUI interface. This can be considered a perfect combination when we have both the powerful hardwares from Xiaomi and Google's smooth original interface. However, the design is the topic that we discuss today. The design of the new Mi A3 is really noticeable. Although the phone has a very high-end appearance, its selling price is just EUR249 (roughly Rs. 19,000).
Unbox Xiaomi Mi A3
If you are familiar with Xiaomi devices, you will not be surprised by what is included in the box. Besides the phone, we will see a standard 10W charger, a USB Type-C cable, and a silicone case. Xiaomi Mi A3 supports the 18W Quick Charge 3.0. However, as the box only includes the 10W charger, you have to buy an extra 18W charger which is not too expensive if you want a faster charging rate.
Xiaomi Mi A3 Design
The appearance of the Mi A3 reflects a high-end smartphone when this phone has an aluminum frame and Gorilla Glass 5 protective layers on both the front and the back. Additionally, the Mi A3 looks not much different from Mi. 9, the latest high-end smartphone of Xiaomi. This design alone is enough to position the design of the Mi A3 in the high-end segment.
However, everything has its price. So is the Mi A3. Xiaomi has to reduce the resolution of the Mi A3 display to HD+ (1,560 x 720 pixels) resolution, instead of Full HD+ as expected. In return, this display features Super AMOLED panel with waterdrop notch and thin bezels. The notch houses a 32MP camera, and there are a compact speaker and sensors on the left.
A big advantage on the Mi A3 display is the on-screen fingerprint sensor, which is rarely seen in smartphones in its price range. Moreover, the Mi A3's fingerprint sensor has a fast speed and stable performance, which offers a great experience. It can be said that the fingerprint sensor in Mi A3's display is not inferior to the ones found on high-end phones and much faster than those of mid-range smartphones.
Additionally, the handset's back has curved edges, which makes it look slimmer and users will find it easier to hold the device. However, the back of the handset is made of glossy glass, making the device quite slippery if you don't use a case. In return, you do not need to worry about the durability because the phone is protected by the Gorilla Glass 5 layer.
The biggest highlight on the back of the Mi A3 is its triple rear camera setup. This camera bump is quite similar to the one on the Mi 9. Regarding color options, Xiaomi has an interesting color-naming method when three color versions of the Mi A3 are named as More than White, Not just Blue, and Kind of Grey. It sounds a bit funny but it is true that with the gradient effect based on the perspective, the color of Mi A3 is not similar to any specific color that we have ever known.
The Xiaomi Mi A3 has a compact size, which is greatly suitable for those who like using compact devices. However, as mentioned above, the glossy glass and the unibody design make the Mi A3 quite slippery. Even though it has a Gorilla Glass 5 protective layer, we still recommend you to use a case for the Mi A3.
