Vivo V20 Pro: Price in India, Specs, Review - Everything You Need

The Vivo V20 Pro shines with a gorgeous design, a high-quality display, and a powerful performance inside a very slim body.

Vivo V20 & V20 Pro are the two latest addition to the V20 series. The Vivo V20 Pro is the top-end model in the series, with a powerful chipset, dual selfie cameras, and an attractive design. It is a direct competitor to the OnePlus Nord as they are in a similar price point. While the OnePlus’ mid-range phone is priced at Rs. 27,990, the Vivo V20 Pro price in India is slightly higher, Rs. 29,990.

Vivo V20 Pro

Just like the vanilla model, the V20 Pro’s USPs are cameras and design. The Chinese company touts this phone to be the thinnest 5G phone in the segment. But is it attractive enough for you? Can it compete against the OnePlus Nord? Let’s find out in our Vivo V20 Pro review.

Vivo V20 Pro: Design

The back panel is where the Vivo V20 Pro shines, especially for the Sunset Melody color option. The matte and multi-colored finish is certainly eye-catching, but it comes with a cost. You might find the back to be prone to fingerprints, but you can wipe that off pretty easily.

Do you like this design?

With a thickness of just 7.4mm, you are looking at one of the slimmest smartphones in the market. Because of the plastic frame, the handset only weighs around 170g. It feels very light when holding in hands.

Vivo V20 Pro: Display

In the last few years, Vivo has used gorgeous displays on the Vivo V series. Just like the V20 & V20 SE, the Vivo V20 Pro display also has a size of 6.44 inches, AMOLED panel, FHD+ resolution, and a 20:9 aspect ratio. However, while its two siblings have the water-drop notch design, the V20 Pro comes with a wider notch to house two selfie shooters.

I love the Vivo V20 Pro display, except for the notch style and low refresh rate.

It is unfortunate that the brand decided to use the traditional 60Hz refresh rate on this phone while other phone makers have started using 90 or 120Hz displays on their mid-range offerings. When it comes to the viewing experience, I didn’t have any significant issues with this phone. It delivers great viewing angles, great contrast ratios, pronounced blacks, and high brightness. You can customize the colour temperature and scheme to your likings. The brand also offers several display modes, like eye-care mode, dark mode, and more. While Vivo doesn’t reveal how high the brightness of this display is, I had no issue using the phone outdoor or in direct sunlight. Thanks to the WideVineL1 certification, I could enjoy streaming HD content via OTT platforms like Amazon Prime, Hotstar, and Netflix.

Vivo V20 Pro: Performance

Because the Vivo V20 Pro is in the mid-range segment, it is obviously equipped with a mid-range chipset, which in this case, is the Snapdragon 765G SoC. With the chipset, the handset performs very well with the help of 8GB of RAM.

Vivo V20 Pro benchmarks.

I tried playing Call of Duty: Mobile at ‘Very High’ frame rate and ‘Very High’ graphics. The phone didn’t heat up too much and the touch-sensing was great. I was a bit surprised because I didn’t think such a slim smartphone could stay cool during a gaming session. But thanks to the vapour cooling system, it handled Asphalt 9 Legends every well at ‘High Quality’ Settings.

Vivo V20 Pro: Camera

As mentioned, the camera is one of the strengths of the Vivo V20 Pro. It has two cameras on the front for selfies and video calls, including a 44MP main sensor with autofocus and an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera. Around the back, you will get a 64MP main sensor with an f/1.89 aperture, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle shooter with autofocus that can be used to take macro shots, and a 2MP monochrome camera.

The wide notch is a bit off for a mid-range smartphone in 2020.

Vivo touts the eye autofocus feature on the main selfie shooter when taking photos or shooting videos. When shooting video, the camera app is capable of quickly locking focus on the users’ eye and will follow their face quite accurately if the frame changes. In comparison to the OnePlus Nord, the main selfie camera takes photos with a much warmer color tone, which might be appealing to some people, but don’t look too natural.

The back camera setup looks much nicer.

You can use the front ultra-wide-angle lens to take photos for a group or capture a wider view. But you should expect the photos to have worse details compared to those taken by the primary camera. In low-light conditions, the selfie shots are pretty decent as long as there is enough ambient light. There is also a dedicated Night Mode for the selfie cameras.

Moving to the rear setup, the handset takes sharp 16MP pixel-binned pictures in daylight with the primary 64MP camera. It appears that the photos have slightly boosted colors but lots of details in landscape photos. The close-up shots look amazing with excellent detail, good colors, and sharpness. The AI is great at recognizing scenes and suggesting the most suitable shooting mode. If you get close to the subject, the camera app will automatically switch to the 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens for a macro shot.

Vivo V20 Pro: Battery

The handset packs a 4,000 mAh battery, which is just decent for the price range. In our HD video loop test, the phone lasted over 16 hours, which is higher than that of the OnePlus Nord. You can quickly refill the phone’s battery with the 33W fast charging technology. In one hour, the phone could reach around 90 percent. With medium usage, I could carry the phone around for 1.5 days before having to recharge it.

If you think a 4,000 mAh battery is not enough, you should consider the Galaxy M51, which is packed with a whopping 7,000 mAh battery. Here is our detailed Samsung Galaxy M51 review.
