Vivo V17 Pro Hands-On: Stunning Design With Decent Hardware Configuration

Karamchand Rameshwar

Vivo V17 Pro is the latest mid-range smartphone from Vivo with a dual pop-up selfie camera setup and quad rear cameras as its key highlights.

In the mid-range segment, it can be said that Vivo V17 Pro is the smartphone with the most cameras at the moment, with a total of 6 cameras. The handset is already up for sale in India for the price of Rs. 29,990.

The version I use in this review is called Crystal Sky.

In general, when holding this phone, the feeling from the beginning was quite heavy because it weighed up to 200 grams with a thickness of 9.8 mm.

The possible reason for the weight of the phone is due to the integration of a dual-selfie camera module, a large battery, and four rear cameras.

The accessories that come with the device are all pure white, including USB-C charging cable, 18W fast charger, a pair of headphones, and a plastic back cover.

The plastic back cover has a rather large cut for the fairly long 4-camera cluster.

Going to the previous detail on the back of the Vivo V17 Pro, the brand uses Gorilla Glass 6 to protect the panel. This color version feels like a mix of light blue and white colors and it looks quite eye-catching.

The most outstanding is undoubtedly the 4-camera system, which is symmetrically located with an LED flash in the middle.

Above the camera cluster is a line that reads ‘AI QUAD CAMERA’, which means all four cameras are supported by AI to deliver better photos.

At the bottom of the device is the familiar Vivo logo.

The front of Vivo V17 Pro is also good looking with relatively thin bezels on all four sides. On the front, the selfie camera module is the highlight, because Vivo V17 Pro is world's first phone to ever feature a dual pop-up selfie camera.

The right side is the power button and volume rocker.

On the top, there are a 3.5mm headphone port, microphone, and selfie camera pop-up module.

The left side is the virtual assistant quick activation key.

The bottom of the device is a SIM slot, USB-C charging port, external speaker, and recording microphone, which are beveled relatively flat.

Hardware configuration

The Vivo V17 Pro's screen also impressed me, measuring 6.44 inches with a resolution of 2,400x1,080 pixels, an aspect ratio of 20: 9, and a screen area of up to 91.65%. This screen has high brightness and supports the Alway On Display feature.

Thanks to the Super AMOLED panel, Vivo V17 Pro is very suitable for watching videos, playing games as it offers vibrant colors and wide viewing angles.

The optical fingerprint sensor embedded in the screen is quite reliable and fast. And The popping up speed of the selfie camera is a bit slow and it supports Face Recognition feature.

And the most valuable point on Vivo V17 is the camera. Main camera system includes Sony IMX582 48 MP main sensor, 13 MP telephoto lens, 8 MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and 2 MP depth sensor.

Upfront, there is a dual selfie camera setup with a 32MP main sensor and an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens.

In general, this camera system serves the diverse needs of users and also supports night mode.

Vivo V17 Pro is powered by the Snapdragon 675 processor similar to that of its predecessor Vivo V15 Pro. It is quite disappointing since we expect it to get upgraded to a more powerful processor such as Snapdragon 712. Generally, Vivo V17 Pro still brings a stable experience when playing games or everyday tasks.

The latest FunTouch OS 9 version on Vivo V17 Pro brings a host of new features, including the dark mode throughout the system.

Vivo V17 Pro has a 4,100 mAh battery and supports 18W fast charging, this battery meets your usage needs from morning to night and the charging time takes about 1.5 hours.

Verdict:

With a price of Rs. 29.990, Vivo V17 Pro is a great choice overall. With a beautiful but heavy design, stable configuration, good camera, nice display, and good battery life with fast charging support, this is also a heavy competitor for those in its price range.
