At the launch event held in China on 10 December, Xiaomi's sub-brand Redmi has officially launched the new Redmi K30 after many rumors and leaks. It is the first mid-range smartphone in the world to support 5G connectivity, all thanks to Qualcomm's newly introduced Snapdragon 765 chipset. The brand recently promised to make 5G available and affordable to everyone.
The highlight of this Redmi K30 may come from design, as Xiaomi has completely renovated its design language. The new lineup no longer retains the pop-up selfie camera like the Redmi K20 duo anymore but it is replaced with a punch-hole screen similar to the Galaxy S10+. It has a pill-shaped cut-out to house a dual selfie camera. In addition, on the back, Redmi K30 also owns a new unique camera design.
In the Redmi K20 series, Redmi brings a fairly elegant design with a glass back and youthful gradient finish, accompanied by a vertically-stacked camera cluster. In the K30 lineup, Xiaomi switches to a frosted glass back, with a cluster of 4 cameras placed vertically in a circular module.
The back of the device will still be curved to the sides for a more comfortable grip. Redmi K30 will be sold by the manufacturer with 3 color options: Blue, Purple, and Red. The version included in this article is the Purple Version.
Coming to the front, now the Redmi K-series has officially removed the full-screen display with a pop-up selfie camera and switched to the punch-hole design. Placement and size of the cut-out remind us of the Galaxy S10+ with the same design. And like other product lines, the screen border of the device is thinned evenly on all 3 sides, except the bottom one.
Regarding screen specifications, Redmi K30 is equipped with a large 6.67 inch IPS LCD screen, 20:9 aspect ratio, and full-HD + resolution. The screen is protected by sturdy Corning Gorilla Glass 5. And despite being a mid-range product, Redmi still favorably equipped the screen with a super smooth 120Hz refresh rate, even higher than the high-end OnePlus 7T Pro and Pixel 4 XL with a 90Hz refresh rate. Users can switch between 60Hz and 120Hz in settings to optimize battery life.
On the side, users will have a traditional headphone jack, USB-C charging port, microphone and speaker strip located on the bottom edge. Meanwhile, the power button mounted with a fingerprint sensor is placed on the right side along with a volume rocker. At the top, there are a second recording mic and an IR blaster.
Regarding configuration, Redmi K30 is equipped with the newly-launched Snapdragon 765G chipset, 6 / 8GB RAM and 64/128 / 256GB of storage. The rear camera setup of the device include 64MP + 8MP + 2MP + 2MP, while it sports 20MP + 2MP sensors on the front. The battery of the K30 has a capacity of 4500mAh and supports 27W fast charging.
The price of the Redmi K30 4G in China is CNY 1,599 (roughly Rs. 16,100) for the base 6GB RAM / 64GB storage option and CNY 1,699 (roughly Rs. 17,100) for the model with 6GB RAM / 128GB storage. You can also get two more variants with 8GB RAM / 128GB storage and 8GB RAM / 256GB storage for CNY 1,899 (roughly Rs. 19,100) and CNY 2,199 (roughly Rs. 22,200), respectively.
Moving to the Redmi K30 5G, it is priced at CNY 1,999 (roughly Rs. 20,100) for the entry-level variant with 6GB of RAM/ 64GB storage. You can get another model with twice the storage for a price of CNY 2,299 (roughly Rs. 23,100). The last two options - 8GB RAM / 128GB storage and 8GB RAM / 256GB storage are retailed at CNY 2,599 (roughly Rs. 26,200) and CNY 2,899 (roughly Rs. 29,200), respectively.
