Redmi 8 Quick Review: Massive 5,000mAh Battery With 18W Charging For Just Rs. 7,999

Despite having a slightly less powerful chipset than its predecessor, the Redmi 8 offers a much larger 5,000mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging.

Carrying case and design

The case of Redmi 8 has nothing special in front of the product image with two versions in red and blue hues. To the right of the box is the familiar Xiaomi brand logo.

Inside the box is a 5V / 2A output adapter and it's not a quick charger, a USB Type-C cable, an user manual, a silicon transparent phone cover and a SIM eject tool. According to information from Xiaomi, the device can support fast charging up to 18W but Xiaomi does not offer an 18W charger with the device.

Coming to the main character of the phone, the version that I hold in my hand is in Blue hue. The back of this phone has no gradient effect.

The Redmi 8 has a fairly smooth back.

The middle part features a dual-camera mounted on the back alongside a fingerprint sensor and a Redmi logo. This back is quite prone to sweats and fingerprints, people or sweaty hands like me will not like this.

In addition, the back of the Redmi 8 is slightly curved on the sides, to provide a comfortable grip for our users.

Apart from the camera cluster, the overall design of the Redmi 8 looks similar to its predecessor, Redmi 7.

There are a waterdrop-notched display on the front and a relatively thick chin at the bottom with a Redmi logo on it.

Hardware configuration

The device comes with a 6.22-inch IPS LCD display with HD+ resolution. Its screen size is large enough for you to experience gaming or media.

The display quality of Redmi 8 is decent.

The screen has good quality, sharp images, and wide viewing angles. The panel is also protected by Corning's Gorilla Glass 5, plus a nano-coating for waterproof. The configuration of Redmi 8 is sufficient to meet daily needs and play less-intensive games.

The Redmi 8 is powered by a Snapdragon 439 processor, paired with 3 GB / 4 GB RAM. This configuration helps you play a lot of games at a good level. However, if you want to play PUBG Mobile with this phone, the experience might not be pleasant for you.

Meanwhile, the selfie camera of the device has 8 MP resolution also supports features beauty and portrait modes as well.

And the most impressive point of me on Redmi 8 is that it integrates a 5,000 mAh battery that supports both 18W fast charging but the company does not offer an 18W charger along with the phone. This is the cheapest smartphone you can get in the market with such a massive battery with 18W fast charging support.

In addition, Redmi 8 comes preloaded with the Android 9 Pie operating system with MIUI 10 user interface.

Verdict

Actually, the Redmi 8 does not have a lot of upgrades compared to Redmi 8A, even less powerful hardware specifications compared to Redmi 7. But in return, Redmi 8 has a more beautiful and stylish design. And more importantly, it packs a larger display with faster charging support.

Currently, you can get the 3GB RAM / 32GB storage model for Rs. 7,999 for you can get the higher variant with 4GB RAM / 64GB storage for an additional of Rs. 1,000.
