OPPO A52 Hands-On Review: Good, But Not The Best On The Market

After spending a bit of time with the OPPO A52, we believe that this phone is a good all-around phone, but there are better options available on the market.

A few days ago, OPPO officially released the OPPO A52 in India. It is a mid-range smartphone that aims at young users with an attractive design, a solid quad-camera setup, and a beefy battery.

This phone is certainly aimed at young users with decent specs and eye-catching design. Inside, the OPPO A52 box is bundled with an 18W quick charger, a USB Type-C cable, a pair of headphones, and silicon cover.

The version we have on hands is the Stream White model with a cool white-blue gradient effect. In addition, OPPO A52 also comes in a Twilight Black option.

The back of the phone is where the rear camera setup with a new design is placed. The camera setup includes a 12MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle shooter, a 2MP depth-sensing camera, and a 2MP monochrome unit.

Still a familiar “OPPO” logo at the bottom.

On the front, it gets a large 6.5-inch display, offering FHD+ resolution. The display uses a TFT LCD panel with the popular hole-punch design. The side bezels of the phone are quite thin. The punch-hole at the top left corner is where a 16MP selfie camera is placed.

Being a mid-range smartphone, the OPPO A52 still has a relatively thick chin at the bottom, but at a price of Rs. 16,990, this is acceptable and doesn’t affect much on your overall experience.

Because of the LCD screen, OPPO has to move the fingerprint reader of the phone to the side, mounted it into the power button.

Regarding hardware specs, the OPPO A52 is equipped with Snapdragon 665 chipset, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of internal storage.

Snapdragon 665 chip is a mid-range chipset that meets most of what average user would need: watching videos, playing medium games, … However, if you are a hardcore gamer, there are much better choices out there.

The highlight of OPPO A52 is its battery life. OPPO packs a 5000mAh battery inside this phone and it supports 18W fast charging technology.

The handset, of course, runs on the latest ColorOS 7.1 that is based on the latest Android 10 to take care of the software side of things.

OPPO A52 will go on sales in India from 17 June. For now, the brand only offers the handset in a 6GB RAM + 128GB storage model for a price of Rs. 16,990. However, it did say that the OPPO A52 will come in two more memory configurations in India soon, including 4GB RAM + 128GB storage and 8GB RAM + 128GB storage. Users can purchase the phone in either Stream White or Twilight Black.

Launch offers for the A52 include a 5 percent cash back on Federal Bank Debit card EMI and Bank of Baroda Credit card EMI. Users can also get no-cost EMI up to 6 months on Debit and Credit card EMI transactions for IDFC First Bank, HDB Financial Services, Bajaj Finserv, Home Credit, ICICI Bank, and HDFC Bank.

Overall, we would say that this is a good all-around phone, featuring large display, massive battery, quad rear cameras, and a decent chipset. However, if you want to get the most powerful smartphone in the segment, the POCO X2 or Realme 6 Pro should be the better options.
