OnePlus has taken what users love the most of the 5T and 6T, and add some features of the OnePlus 7 Pro to make a brand new, but familiar OnePlus 7T

OnePlus 7T is by far one of the best non-Pro OnePlus smartphones to date.

From the first look, the device does not look like other “T” models launched by the China-based company. It feels like OnePlus has taken what users love the most of the 5T and 6T, and add some features of the OnePlus 7 Pro to make a brand new, but familiar smartphone.

Hardware And Design

OnePlus has made a change from the 18:9 aspect ratio to 20:9, meaning the OnePlus 7T is boxier and taller than both the OnePlus 7 and the 6T. However, the sizes of the chin, bezels, and forehead are reduced.

The flat AMOLED display measuring 6.55 inches display might not be to everyone’s liking as the trend now is curved panels. However, many users will feel that this design is easier and more refreshing to use for day-to-day tasks.

Once you have had the chance to try out the 90Hz display, it is easy to get addicted. While this speed is not applicable to all apps, spending some time with it and you will find it hard to switch back to 60Hz display.

At first, the 20:9 aspect ratio will make some people feel weird, but overall, the FHD+ screen has nothing to complain. The OnePlus 7T is HDR10+ certified, meaning TV shows and movies look nice from every angle.

The phone does look boxier but thanks to the acute curves on the rear, the overall look of the phone is still comfortable. The frosted glass back gives out the impression that the phone is solid but still soft enough to hold in your hand.

The new circular camera bump on the rear is the evidence that OnePlus is serious about this phone. We have premium snapper quality on the 6T and 7, but for the OnePlus 7T, it is a leap into the high-end hardware for the Chinese company.

The haptics is arguably the most notable enhancements on the smartphone. You will have even better vibrations and buzzes with the new haptic motor.

Users have the choice to acquire the phone in two colors, which will change according to how you look and hold the phone.

Software And Performance

Oxygen OS 10.0 based on Android 10 is decent with everything feels cohesive and responsive, courtesy of the lightweight skin, the ultra-fast UFS 3.0 storage, and the 90Hz display.

The Oxygen OS has already been a great operating system so functions like Google Lens in the camera app is just some nice additions.

One of the most notable changes in Oxygen OS 10.0 is the gestures with visual upgrades. Some other minor but nice features are the animations whenever apps are deleted from the home screen.

Camera

OnePlus has been criticized for years for the camera setup on its devices. So now when a triple snapper arrangement is launched, OnePlus obviously means business.

The dynamic range and colors are superb. Photos look clear and crisp, thanks to the pixel binning mode on the 48-megapixel main sensor. The full-fledged 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 sensor can be accessed by accessing the Pro mode.

For close shots, like 2.5cm close, the macro mode proves to be handy. The OnePlus 7T only has a 2x telephoto zoom lens without OIS, so if you do not have a steady hand, prepare to have some blurry images.

The most interesting new lens is arguably the ultra-wide-angle. It opens up a whole new world of taking pictures of buildings and landscapes.

The results of the Nightscape 2.0 mode is excellent but of course, it cannot rival the Night Sight of the P30 Pro.

The phase-detected autofocus has made the video mode a lot nicer to use. The hybrid image stabilization is a new feature and it works just like what you have on GoPro camera. However, expect to see some kinds of distortions with this function.

Except from the above downer, overall, OnePlus 7T’s video mode is still great and can be one of the best in the industry.

Battery

This is the aspect that users will find mixed reviews. The 3,800mAh battery means you have more energy but since the phone features a 90Hz display, users may not notice much of a difference. On average, you will have a full day with some left on top.

People who expect wireless charging will be disappointed as this feature is still absent. Instead, the company offers Warp Charge 30T for 30W charging. While you can have a faster speed with some other companies, being able to have 70% of battery in just half an hour is incredible.

Verdict

OnePlus 7T is a leap for the company so if you are looking for a new smartphone, this one is definitely a better option than the old 6T. If you are not a fan of the curved screen, switching to this phone is not a bad idea.

With an affordable price of Rs.32999, what you have is flexibility and battery life. For some, it can even beat the OnePlus 7 Pro with enhanced camera quality and display.
