Apple will probably launch the first 5G iPhone in 2020. The product may be equipped with Intel's 8161 5G modem chip.

According to “a source with knowledge of Apple’s plans”, Apple will probably launch its first 5G iPhone with an 8161 5G modem chip manufactured by Intel in 2020.

5G connectivity has become the hot subject that attracts many interests from the technology community. That originates from the ability to download data faster than the present networks, like 3G or 4G. While wireless carriers have had the first steps to develop their own 5G network, hardware manufacturers are willing to take part in the competition. And Apple is among those.

Apple will reportedly introduce the first 5G iPhone in 2020. That means in only two years, you will have a chance to experience the latest wireless technology on your iDevice.

In 2017, with the FCC’s approval, Apple got an experimental license to test 5G technology. According to a Fast Company report, Apple has a plan to choose Intel as a partner to supply 5G modem chip for its first 5G phone.

The source also further revealed that the company has faced a few technical issues relating to the dissipation of heat. Apart from Intel, Plan B by Apple is MediaTek – the company produces a lot of renowned devices, such as Helio smartphones, HDTV and wireless communications.

Intel modems have been now applied in the iPhones 2018; however, that may not happen in the iPhones version 2020. Apple seems not to have any intention to bring Intel Bluetooth and Wi-Fi chips into their next two years products.
