Sony has just announced a new offering in the mid-range segment dubbed Xperia 8. The handset appears to be quite similar to the Xperia 10 smartphones that were introduced at the MWC event earlier in the year. The Xperia 8 features a display with the same tall aspect ratio of 21:9 seen on the Xperia 10 and 10 Plus. It is also driven by the same Snapdragon 630 SoC of the Xperia 10. However, it seems like the Xperia 8 is only available for the Japanese market at the moment and we can’t confirm whether the brand will bring the handset to other markets.
Xperia 8: Price
The price of the Sony Xperia 8 is revealed to be 54,000 JPY (around Rs. 35,900), and it will be up for sale in the country later in the month. The device will be exclusively distributed by Japan’s Y! Mobile in four hues - Orange, Blue, White, and Black.
Xperia 8: Specifications
The device is protected by a layer of Gorilla Glass 6 on both front and back. The 21:9 aspect ratio of the handset allows users to hold it easily with only one hand. However, you might need to stretch your fingerprints quite a bit to reach the top of the screen. Moreover, because of the tall display design, the company includes a feature on the phone called Side Sense, which brings highly used apps on the side for easier access. At the back panel, there is a dual camera setup that includes a 12MP main sensor and an 8MP depth sensor.
For taking selfies and video calling, the device is packed with an 8MP sensor that supports portrait mode. The device is available in a single memory configuration with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. To power the entire setup, Sony packs a 2,760 mAh battery on the phone. Other features include a rear fingerprint reader, NFC, USB-C port, Bluetooth 5.0, a microSD card slot, and an audio jack. Finally, it ships with Android 9 Pie at launch to take care of the software side of things.
