Although the market for affordable smartphones under Rs 5,000 is enormous, you will be hard pressed to find a model belonging to this segment that has decent software’s performance or can hold up for a long time without the degradation of speed. To meet with this urgent need for a lighter version of Android that does not demand much from the hardware, Google has released the Go Edition of the Android Oreo, on which the Redmi Go, one of the best smartphones under Rs 5,000, runs.
Design

The overall appearance of the phone does not look cheap at all
With the price of Rs 4,499, no one can expect the high-end look on this Redmi Go. Users who are interested in this smartphone will end up with a plastic cover. The material might not sound promising, but the overall appearance of the phone does not look cheap at all.
On the Redmi Go, there is a 5-inch display which has decent respond to touches. On the lower half of the phone are three keys including the home, the back, and the multitasking button. These keys do not light up so you might find it hard at first to tell which is which at first.
On the right side of the phone sit the power and the volume up and down buttons. The headphone jack is on top, and the left is where you can take the SIM and memory card tray out. The speakers and charging port are at the bottom. If you decide to go for the Redmi Go, you will have to purchase the headphones separately as Xiaomi left this accessory out to cut cost.

The headphone jack is on top
Even on the best smartphones under Rs 5,000, the fingerprint scanner is still absent so you will have to memorize a password or a pattern lock to secure your phone. The Redmi Go’s appearance and design are decent given its price tag, so this feature will not disqualify it as one of the best smartphones under Rs 5,000. You have the choice to acquire the phone in two colors, blue and black.
Set-up

The Android version the phone runs on is quite straightforward and easy to use
The Android version the phone runs on is quite straightforward and easy to use, which is definitely a plus. All you have to do is to put in your SIM card and do everything else as the instruction says. If you do not have any Google account, you can also skip this step. However, if you wish to use apps like Facebook, Amazon, or WhatsApp, you will have to give it your account’s information.
User Interface

On the front, everything looks simple and well ordered
On the front, everything looks simple and well ordered. When the setting up process is done, the phone will greet you with some basic applications on the Home page. You can choose to show them on the home screen and add more apps; everything can be customized as you wish.
The bottom has room for up to five icons, and they will follow you as you swipe left or right on the home screen. If you want to see all the apps you have installed, just move your finger from the bottom to the top, and the app tray will show up. The search bar can cut a little time out of the searching process. Holding the home button and you will summon Google’s voice assistant. With Android’s interface, not many things can go wrong here. When users want, they can return to the home page anytime you want by pressing the home button.
Android Go, apps and performance

All the pre-installed apps are also light
While the OS consumes too much power, thus not the best match for limited memory and capacity of a model under Rs 5,000, even with the best smartphones in this price bracket, the Go Edition does not have that flaw, which makes it the suitable operating system for entry-level phones. In order not to overload these weaker smartphones, all the pre-installed apps are also light, what you have as standard are Chrome browser, FM Radio, Calendar, Google Go, Gmail Go, Maps Go, Facebook Lite, File Manager, YouTube Go, Calculator, Assistant Go, and some more.
When you use the YouTube Go, the phone will display the available storage and the options to download the video in three basic quality levels. The Maps Go is also straightforward as you can pick walk, drive, public transportation, or two-wheeler according to your need.
Apart from pre-installed Google apps, Xiaomi also leaves some of theirs in the phone including Mi Drop, Mint browser, Cleaner, and Mi Community. Users can use common apps like Amazon, WhatsApp, Facebook, and some games with ease as lagging rarely happens.
The Redmi Go comes with 8GB of built-in storage, but a portion of it has been used for running the phone and applications already. If you want to clear some room, the Cleaner is right up your alley. The phone can hold dual SIM setup, but users cannot use both of them simultaneously. Under the hood, the phone runs on Qualcomm 425 processor with RAM of 1GB. The whole thing is fueled by a battery of 3000 mAh which can hold up for up to 36 hours with common use.
Camera

There is an 8MP camera with HDR and flash on the phone
There is an 8MP camera with HDR and flash on the phone. You have what you pay for with the photos as they look nice if taken in a well-lit environment but contain lots of noise in darker surrounding. With the price in mind, no one can ask for more than this quality even with one of the best smartphones under Rs 5,000.
With the HDR out of the way, the speed at which the phone captures a photo is quick, but when the function is on, you might have to wait for a few seconds. The filter choices include calm, vivid, black-and-white, film, amour, and some more. When the gallery is full, you can transfer the photos to the Cloud. On the front, there is a 5MP selfie camera with the support of AI Beauty.
Overall, the Redmi Go is a good deal for those who have a tight budget and just want the basic functions as it is one of the best smartphones you can find at this under Rs 5,000 price bracket. If you have a little bit more to spare, the Redmi 6A, which comes at the price of Rs 5,999 fits the bill.
