Xiaomi has recently unveiled its latest Redmi Note 7S in India. Currently, the brand has announced that it plans to discontinue the Redmi Note 7 in the country to make way for the 7S. It is known that the base Note 7 launched along with the Pro variant in February this year. This announcement comes from an executive of Xiaomi. However, he did not reveal a certain date when the brand stops selling this device.
The base Redmi Note 7 was priced at Rs.9,999 at launch in the Indian market. Meanwhile, the vanilla Redmi Note 7S has the starting price of Rs.10,999 in the country. Although this information comes from a company’s executive, we should wait for an official announcement from the company. In addition, another executive said that the brand probably resorts to overlapping both phones’ availability before it completely phases out this device.
It is known that the initial confirmation comes from Xiaomi India’s Online Sales Head – Raghu Reddy. Then another executive strengthened his post on Twitter more. Even Xiaomi’s Head of Marketing – Anuj Sharma hinted that the brand has aimed to carry out a limited run for the Redmi Note 7 in the Indian market and all saved smartphones have been shipped as well. This decision seems important since customers would hardly be giving the Redmi Note 7 phone an edge over the Note 7S currently in the scene. Quantifying the lack of large pricing bap between two devices, the company has chosen to discontinue the Note 7 phone for the 7S.
Additionally, the notable difference between the two handsets is in the camera module on the back. While the Note 7S features a dual rear camera setup including a 48MP sensor and a 5MP sensor with Portrait Mode with AI support and PDAF, the Note 7 has a 12MP+2MP camera setup on the back. All other specs but rear camera are the same on two devices. Both of them feature a 6.3-inch display with Full HD+ resolution, a 4,000mAh cell, and a Snapdragon 660 SoC.
With Rs.1,000 price difference between two devices’ standard variant pricing, buyers would tend to the Note 7S. And the device’s better cameras make consumers want it rather than the Note 7.
