When Apple released the iPhone 12 lineup, it dropped the charger that was originally shipped with the phones. After this move, Samsung and Xiaomi mocked the iPhone maker, but they seem to become the next companies to follow Apple. After the news about Samsung, it’s likely that the Xiaomi 11 will also be launched without an in-box charger.
The news surfaced as Xiaomi’s Chief Executive Officer Lei Jun posted on Weibo, with an explanation about the decision. The post included a picture of the Xiaomi 11’s retail box, confirming the specifications. The CEO said in his post:
“In response to the call of technology and environmental protection, Xiaomi 11 canceled the random charger.”
He added that the decision could be complained about.

From this post, the Chinese firm seems to be dropping the charger to lower the amount of e-waste that echoes the iPhone maker’s statements: most users already have a charger from their previous phones so they do not need another charger. As a result, the product could be a bit cheaper and first-time users can buy a charger at a lower rate.
It’s undeniable that dropping the in-box charger can further help protect the environment. At the same time, rumor has it that Samsung will do the same thing with its upcoming Galaxy S21 after the Korean company mocked Apple for this move.
If Apple, Samsung, and Xiaomi, three of the largest phone makers in the world, actually do this all together, we may soon see the other brands follow in 2021.
In terms of the upcoming phone's retail box, as shown by Lei Jun, it looks slim. However, it also shows some specifications of the anticipated smartphone. Now, it’s safe to say that the handset will sport a 108MP primary camera, a Super AMOLED HDR10+ display, as well as speakers that are optimized by Harman Kardon.
Apart from that, we know that the Xiaomi 11 will launch today. Let’s see how the phone turns out in reality.
