The Google Pixel 5 began shipping last month and shortly after that, there were complaints about a design flaw surfacing on forums and even in Google’s community as well.
Specifically, some owners of the flagship spotted a noticeable gap between the screen and the body of the phone. They wanted to know if this happened to them only or other users encountered the same issue. It turned out that several customers also have this complaint.
Posters of the complaint worry that the gap would affect the waterproofing ability of the phone and let dust in easier. However, a Google Community Specialist has responded to these concerns, saying that there’s nothing to worry about regarding this matter.
The response writes:
“We’ve had a chance to investigate units from customers and, combined with our quality control data from the factory, we can confirm that the variation in the clearance between the body and the display is a normal part of the design of your Pixel 5. There is no effect on the water and dust resistance or functionality of your phone. We will work with customers on an individual basis to address any concerns they may have.”
Some gaps are more noticeable than others and at least one owner has seen dust accumulate in their Google Pixel 5. However, the specialist did not explain why the gap between the screen and the body varies among devices and whether this was duet o the assembly process.
It’s worth noting that Google seems willing to replace any affected handset according to reports by owners that managed to get the firm to replace their phones.
