Samsung Galaxy S20, S20 + and Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra have been upgraded with 120Hz screens, providing a super smooth experience compared to traditional 60Hz screens. However, in return, the 120Hz screen will also consume a lot more battery. To find out how much battery drain 120Hz is, PhoneArena did a test.

The test was conducted on Galaxy S20 Ultra, with a massive 5,000 mAh battery. The test was only conducted at 1080p screen resolution because Galaxy S20 Ultra does not currently support 120Hz refresh rate and 1440p resolution at the same time.
One thing to admit is that the 120Hz screen makes a noticeable difference when navigating around the main interface and browsing websites. The refresh rate also brings a big advantage for gamers, allowing them to react faster, but there are still many games that do not support 120Hz.
One thing you won't see the difference is watching videos. YouTube and most other video platforms only support up to 60fps, so the 120Hz screen makes no difference.
PhoneArena also compares it with some other high-end smartphones, and here are the results:
- Galaxy S20 Ultra 60Hz: 12 hours 23 minutes.
- Galaxy S20 Ultra 120Hz: 10 hours 2 minutes.
- Galaxy Note 10 Plus: 11 hours 37 minutes
- Galaxy S10 Plus: 10 hours 33 minutes
- iPhone 11 Pro Max: 12 hours 53 minutes
With the above test results, we can clearly see the difference between the battery life of the two modes 120Hz and 60Hz. The Galaxy S20 Ultra 60Hz has a battery life of up to 12 hours 23 minutes, which is an impressive figure. However, in 120Hz mode, the battery life was reduced by 2 hours and 20 minutes, which is 20 percent less compared to the 60Hz mode.
In conclusion, it is up to you whether you want the smoothest experience or longer battery life.
Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra price: $1,399 (around Rs. 99,600) for 16GB RAM + 128GB storage model
Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra price in India: Rs. 92,999 (memory configuration is unknown)
