When news of the highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S10 is heightening as the release date of January 20th gets closer, Samsung also announced that it will pack he first ever 1TB storage on its upcoming Galaxy S10.
The First 1 Terabyte UFS Module
The announcement released by Samsung noted that it has ‘achieved a threshold’ in smartphone storage. Specifically, the South Korean’s tech firm had successfully developed the first 1TB Universal Flash Storage (UFS) chip. Last year’s Samsung S9 devices managed to risen quite a lot of hype for the unprecedented 512Gb storage capacity. It is certainly surprising that in the span of a single year, Samsung had managed to double the possible storage capacity of their phone.
Samsung’s announcement came in the middle of building hype over the ‘Galaxy Unpacked’ event on January 20th. Of course, based on the name of the event itself and the continuous teasings the company had done on its social network accounts. The only device that could possibly be unveiled at this event can only be the S10. Combining these two pieces of information together, and it’s pretty safe to say that you’d be able to buy an S10 with 1Tb storage this year.

Module's Design
Samsung elaborated that the 1Tb UFS chip is built using the 5th generation V-NAND architecture. Claimed to offer:

Despite the doubling of capacity, the size of the module remains similar to the 512Gb chip at 11.5mmx13mm. In order to achieve the 1Tb capacity, Samsung stacked 16 layers of 512Gb’s V-NAND flash memory on top of each other. The module is regulated, lastly, by a: “newly developed proprietary controller.”

One of the best possible things about this storage module is that Samsung had already started the mass production process. This more or less guarantees that the module can be stocked in time to make an appearance in the S10.
What can you do with a 1TB inbuilt storage?
Well, it’d help a great deal if you’re a cinematographer or a photographer relying on the phone’s excellent cameras. 1Tb can store a total of 260 minutes of 4K videos, and enough space for you to snap high-resolution images for the rest of your life. The storage capacity wasn’t the only thing that went up. The new module also has an extraordinary 1000Mb/s speed.
Production of the module is planned to be ramped up throughout the first half of 2019.
