Redmi India released its Redmi Note 9 Pro & Redmi Note 9 Pro Max in India last week. The two smartphones are the latest offerings in the mid-range Redmi Note series. Many Redmi fans were caught off guard by the new model with the ‘Max’ suffix, which might remind you of the iPhone 11 series. It was also quite a surprise that the brand didn’t announce a standard model in the series or maybe it is saving the model for a later date. Either way, Xiaomi Malaysia has just announced that it will release a new smartphone in the Redmi Note series called Redmi Note 9S.

According to an official poster, the Redmi Note 9S launch date is 23rd March. The poster also reveals that the device will also have quad cameras at the back, just like its Indian siblings. In a different poster, the handset was shown to carry the same center-aligned punch-hole display. For now, we don’t know whether this is a whole new model or just a rebranded version of the newly-launched Redmi Note 9 Pro or Note 9 Pro Max in India.

This isn’t the first time Xiaomi releases a Redmi Note smartphone with an “S” suffix. Last year, the brand introduced the Redmi Note 7S as a slightly upgraded model of the Indian Redmi Note 7 with a 48MP main sensor. It is a bit confusing as the global version of the Note 7 was already equipped with a 48MP main sensor, while the Note 7 version in India only had a 12MP unit. Therefore, the Redmi Note 7S could be considered as the rebranded model of the Redmi Note 7 global version in India.
