It seems like Xiaomi is going to launch the successors to its Redmi K20 series that have been selling quite well in India. They are likely to arrive under the names Redmi K30 & Redmi K30 Pro. At the company’s Developers Conference in China, Xiaomi CEO Lei June talked about the brand’s 5G plan for next year and also revealed the launch timeline of the upcoming Redmi K30. The successor to the Redmi K20 will arrive in December.
Earlier, Redmi’s GM Lu Weibing said that the brand would release the Redmi K30 next year. He probably mentioned the availability of the phone, not the day the brand introduces the phone.
Aside from the official launch timeline, Jun also revealed that the handset will support dual-mode 5G connectivity. It means both of the SIM slots of the Redmi K30 can support the 5G network. Unfortunately, no specs of the Redmi K30 were revealed at the conference.
Previously, the K30 was already rumored to support 5G connectivity, while other leaks suggested that it would feature a hole-punch display with two selfie cameras on the front. It means the device will not retain the pop-up camera design like its predecessor. However, that is just a rumor and no official information has been out yet.
Aside from the K30, the Redmi K30 Pro is tipped to make its debut next year. While the vanilla K30 will draw power from a processor in the Snapdragon 700 series, the K30 Pro might feature one on the Snapdragon 800 series, which is similar to the K20 Pro. To recall, the K20 is packed with a Snapdragon 730 chipset, whereas the K20 Pro is driven by a Snapdragon 855 SoC.
In the conference, Jun also said that all Xiaomi smartphones priced over CNY 2,000 (roughly Rs. 20,500) will support the 5G network next year. The Xiaomi CEO also added that the company will release at least ten 5G smartphones in the upcoming year. In fact, he revealed Xiaomi’s plan to introduce affordable 5G smartphones in the first half of next year.
