Redmi K20 & Redmi K20 Pro Global Shipments Surpassed 4.5 Million Units

At the launch event of the Redmi K30, Xiaomi reveals that it has sold 4.5 million units of the Redmi K20 and Redmi K2 Pro globally. The brand achieved that impressive number in over six months since the official launch. The two were released in May in the Chinese market and they later made their way to India in July. Both of them feature a pop-up selfie camera, a triple camera cluster with a 48MP main sensor, a 6.39” Super AMOLED panel, and a beefy 4,500 mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging solution. The biggest difference between them is the processor. While the vanilla K20 is packed with a Snapdragon 730 chipset, the K20 Pro gets processing power from a Snapdragon 855 SoC.

The brand only reveals the global sales figure of the series so we don’t know how many phones were sold in India. To recall, the series faced several criticisms from the fans, mostly because of its higher price tag than expected. The starting price of the Redmi K20 in India was set at Rs. 21,999.

Now, the Redmi K20’s direct successor has already been revealed. The Redmi K30 5G is the first 5G mid-range smartphone in the world. It is also the world’s first phone to feature Sony 64MP sensor and Qualcomm’s new gaming-focused mid-range Snapdragon 765G processor. Meanwhile, the 4G model of the phone is powered by a Snapdragon 730G SoC instead. Both of them carry a 6.67” LCD panel that has a pill-shaped cutout on the front to house two selfie cameras. The display also supports FHD+ resolution and a refresh rate of 120Hz.

Under the hood, both models are packed with a large 4,500 mAh battery that supports 30W quick charging technology. Software-wise, they ship with MIUI 10 pre-loaded, which is based on Android 10. Surprisingly, the Redmi K30 only has a side-mounted fingerprint reader, while its predecessor Redmi K20 has an under-display fingerprint scanner. 

The starting price of the Redmi K30 in China is CNY 1,599 (roughly Rs. 16,200) for the 4G model, while the price of the Redmi K30 5G starts from CNY 1,999 (roughly Rs. 20,300). The duo should make their way to the Indian market early next year.
