OPPO has recently uploaded a poster on its Weibo account, which confirms that it will take part in the MWC Shanghai 2019. According to the poster, the company intends to introduce the first invisible camera phone at an event taking place on 26 June.
Accordingly, the upcoming phone will have under-display selfie camera, which offers a true full-view design. Currently, phone makers have equipped their phones with pop-up selfie cameras for a full view display. However, most devices come with a notch placed at the top, housing a selfie camera. The company had introduced the first prototype with a front-facing camera hidden behind the display by the beginning of the month. Brian Shen, OPPO’s VP shared a demo video, which showcased a phone with a truly hidden front-facing camera put near the phone’s top bezel. Although the camera was invisible, the phone still could show the live view of the ceiling above this camera.
The under-display selfie camera is more desirable than pop-up one since there are no involved moving parts. But OPPO VP admitted that the brand’s under-screen camera tech has still been early stage. Therefore, the photos captured by this kind of camera are probably not as amazing as those captured by conventional selfie cameras. Soon after OPPO introduced its under-screen camera tech, Xiaomi also launched its own hidden camera solution’s demo.
While OPPO didn’t reveal the release time when it shared about the demo video, its new poster may suggest that the first invisible camera smartphone will launch sooner than expected. Let’s stay tuned to see whether the phone will be available for sales early after it’s introduced at Mobile World Congress 2019 Shanghai next week or whether customers will have to wait longer to see the official look of the phone.
