It seems like Oppo is quite close to release a smartphone with an interesting innovation, under-display selfie camera.

At the Inno Day event in Shenzhen (China), Oppo showed a very unique smartphone with a selfie camera hidden under the screen. After a number of innovations such as the water-drop notch, punch-hole, and pop-up camera, the in-display selfie camera is considered the next step and may also be the final destination in the effort to optimize the front panel.

Like the in-screen fingerprint sensor, under-screen camera technology requires a smartphone to use an OLED screen. When the camera is activated, the pixels in front of the camera module become transparent, thus allowing the camera module to capture photos. When the camera is not in use, these pixels will display as normal.
You can still see a blacker square when active the selfie camera when colors around it are light. When the screen is displaying dark colors, you might not notice the black square for the camera. All features like taking photos or taking videos of selfies are just like any other smartphone.
This technology is still not perfect. When users turn on the screen, the pixels, above where the selfie camera is placed, will not function properly when the selfie camera is activated. That is why Oppo has not been able to commercialize this technology.

In addition, a special feature of this model is that it does not have any connection ports, including charging ports. To charge this device, users must use wireless charging. This is also an opportunity for Oppo to demonstrate 30W Wireless VOOC Flash Charge technology, even faster than some other wired fast charging technology.
All buttons of this smartphone are pressure sensitive and none of them are physical buttons. In addition, because there is no SIM tray, this smartphone of Oppo will use eSIM instead.

Although there are many impressive technologies, up to the present time, this Oppo smartphone is still just a prototype and has yet to reach consumers. However, Oppo can fully use the above technologies to apply to its future products.
