OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition With 'Shark-Fin' Pop-Up Camera, Snapdragon 855 SoC Launched

The Oppo’s recently-announced sub-brand, Reno announced its first two smartphones at a launch event in its home market. The phone maker unveiled a standard Reno phone and its flagship device with 10x Zoom, called Oppo Reno 10x Zoom Edition. The latter is the first phone to feature Oppo’s 10x lossless zoom technology that it already announced at this year’s MWC event. The tech enables the phone to zoom better than the conventional tech. With that, the new Reno 10x Zoom Edition is touted to capture far-off objects with great details and accuracy.

The standard model is priced at CNY 2,999 (around Rs. 30,800) for the option with 6GB of RAM/128GB of storage. The higher option with 6GB of RAM/256GB of storage is priced at CNY 3,299 (around Rs. 34,100) and the top end variant with 8GB RAM/256GB of storage will set you back by CNY 3,599 (around Rs. 37,100). It will come in a total of four color options, Mist Powder, Fog Sea Green, Nebula purple, and Extreme Night Black and up for sale from 19 April.

The flagship device, Reno 10x Zoom Edition, will be priced at CNY 3,999 (around Rs. 41,200) for the option with 6GB of RAM/128GB of storage. The high variant with 6GB RAM/256GB storage will cost CNY 4,499 (around Rs. 46,400) while the top-end option with 8GB RAM/256GB storage will set you back by CNY 4,799 (around Rs. 49,500). It will be up for sale from the middle of next month. Reno is also expected to launch a 5G model later in 2019, according to the company at the launch event.

As mentioned, Oppo’s new sub-brand Reno offers two new smartphones. The standard Reno phone comes with a Snapdragon 710 SoC paired with 8GB RAM/256GB storage. Up front, it sports a 6.4-inch OLED full-screen display thanks to the ‘shark-fin’ selfie camera, and it is protected by Gorilla Glass 6.

On the imaging department, the handset comes with a dual camera setup, including a 48MP f/1.7 primary sensor and a 5MP f/2.4 secondary camera and SuperClear mode to improve its low-light photography. On the front, there is a 16MP f/2.0 camera for selfies and video call. Powering the phone is a 3,765mAh cell with support for Oppo’s VOOC 3.0. Other notable features include an in-display fingerprint scanner, Android 9-based ColorOS 6, Game Boost 2.0 for better gaming performance, and NFC.

Moving to the Reno 10X Zoom Edition, it is powered by the latest Snapdragon 855 SoC coupled with up to 256GB storage and 8GB RAM. It sports a truly bezel-less 6.65-inch FHD+ AMOLED panel with a 93.1 screen-to-body ratio thanks to the ‘shark-fin’ selfie camera, and it is protected by Gorilla Glass 6.

In the camera department, it comes with a triple camera setup, including a 48MP f/1.7 primary Sony IMX 586 sensor, a periscope 13MP f/3.0 telephoto camera with 10X zoom, and an 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide angle lens. The cameras are supported by some features such as SuperClear mode for taking better photos in low-light conditions and hybrid-OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation). The handset can record video up to 4K resolution @60 fps and 3D surround sound with its triple microphones. Up front, it comes with a 16MP selfie camera with an f/2.0 aperture that is housed on a ‘shark-fin’ pop-up camera.

As for security, it only has an on-screen fingerprint scanner. Powering the phone is a 4,065mAh cell with support for Oppo’s VOOC 3.0 and runs the latest Android 9.0 with the company’s ColorOS 6.0 on top. Lastly, similar to the standard Oppo Reno, it also has support for Dolby Atmos, NFC, Game Boost along with an audio jack, and dual-frequency GPS for better tracking as well.
