OnePlus has been known for making smartphones that pack flagship-tied powerful specifications with a much lower price tag compared to other flagships on the market. Name & Launch Date

I guess it is not really that hard to guess what is the name of the next flagship in line from OnePlus. Ever since the company started its business in 2016, it has announced a numbered smartphone later followed by a “T” model that is launched at the end of the year.

The “T” models are usually just a version of the numbered phones with some tweaks and iterations. Because this is early of the year and the latest OnePlus smartphone is OnePlus 6T, the upcoming offering from the company should be dubbed as OnePlus 7.

Moving to the launch date, there hasn’t been any information from the company or leaks. However, the OnePlus 5 was released in June 2017, and the OnePlus was announced in May 2018. So we would say the launch date of the OnePlus 7 might be between May or June this year.

Specifications & Features

OnePlus should live up by its name as a phone brand which equips very powerful hardware specifications on its phones. Therefore, we should expect the latest Snapdragon 855 SoC, at least 6GB RAM, a large battery, a more advanced on-screen fingerprint scanner, and a large display as well. As per a previous leak, the handset will sport a triple camera setup which will be an upgrade from its predecessor OnePlus 6T with only dual cameras.

Interestingly, OnePlus still says no to the wireless charging on its upcoming OnePlus 7. As Pete Lau, OnePlus CEO, said that the wireless charging is not as demanded or efficient enough by consumers as a fast charging standard.

His statement is further backed by the fact that the Fast Charge standard from OnePlus on the OnePlus 6T allows the phone to charge 60 percent in just 35 minutes. The phone makers might take a while to be able to develop the wireless charging to catch up with these charging speeds.

However, despite that, there are more and more phone makers going for the wireless charging capability on their flagship devices. For example, Apple started adopting wireless charging on its iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and also iPhone X two years ago.

Oh, the OnePlus 7 will not have support for the 5G network as well. As told by a OnePlus spokesperson, the Chinese company will start a new and separate line with the 5G supported phone from this handset. It is uncertain whether the company will still plan to launch the OnePlus 7T afterward or completely focus on the 5G supported handsets.

Design & Price

The design of the OnePlus 7 is not fully confirmed yet. There are still many different details about the handset. A leaked from January this year suggests that it might come with a manual sliding mechanism which is similar to the one on the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 that houses the selfie camera and other sensors. However, that design wasn’t explicitly shown in the leak as we could only see a smartphone covered in possibly a custom case.

And now, some leaks hint at the elevating front camera which has been used on some recent smartphones. As for the build material, the OnePlus 7 is said to feature a glass finish on the rear which is already seen on the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T. However, despite having a nicer look, the glass build is not as durable as the aluminum build.

As for the price, we don’t have any details of the OnePlus 7’s price, but the company already made a name for itself by offering flagship-tier specifications at a much affordable price tag. So we should see OnePlus to follow this philosophy to the next OnePlus phone.
