OnePlus 7 Pro Camera Update: This Is How The Photo Quality Has Changed

Recently, OnePlus announced its newest limited Almond variant of the OnePlus 7 Pro along with the triple-rear camera update, dubbed 9.5.7GM21AA.

Since the May launch, the marvelous OnePlus 7 Pro has gained its own reputation for its superb value and luxury specs. And recently, OnePlus announced its newest limited Almond variant along with the triple-rear camera update. Dubbed 9.5.7GM21AA, the update will improve the noise reduction and clarity of the camera. Most importantly, the camera, especially the wide-angle lens, will have enhanced saturation levels and colors.

The upgrade may sometimes make the photos look less true-to-life, just like Samsung Galaxy variant. However, Samsung has scaled back recently. The trend now is to have photos with saturated colors and high contrast with 100 percent color accuracy, according to blind tests from OnePlus and other outlets.

Fortunately, the colors in this update don't go overboard. Despite slight improvements in some situations, the OnePlus 7 Pro still generates sharp, vibrant photos.

It costs you Rs 48,642 (approximately $699, AU$815 or £649) to own this 90Hz display, fast processing speed OnePlus 7 Pro along with its pop-up selfie camera. While boasting comparable hardware, the iPhone XR and Samsung Galaxy S10E are more expensive than the OnePlus 7 Pro.

CNET has tested to see the changes with this update, here are the main differences between before and after the updated camera.

Better white balance accuracy

It is said to be "improved white balance consistency of triple camera" and "overall contrast."  The whites in the photos taken by updated OnePlus 7 Pro seems to be warmer and more true-to-life in comparison to the previous version’s. At two first pictures, the white in the first two shots look much more yellow, but it's due to the warmth of the light inside.

Same HDR

There is almost no difference between two HDR pictures although the update just fixed “an issue of noise in some HDR scenes.”

Angle width and colors pop

The biggest difference is the way colors are treated by the wide-angle camera. The color had more pop and seemed punchier.

As you can see in the third one, the image captured by the new updated camera is not washed out like the old version camera.

Clarity improvement with the telephoto lens

This improvement makes the color more saturated impressively when we zoom in the photo. It is not a clear change about the crisper outlines and details according to the first picture.

Portrait photos look punchier

It helps to brighten the warm complexion in a lively way. Besides, the blurred bokeh effect has no difference.

Slight development in low light and nightscape

I can spot some changes from before and after using the updated camera. However, there is no big difference in color and clarity between the Nightscape photos as I have seen the real scenery. But it is impressive enough about the amount of light that the newest camera could capture.
