Being told you exist just to serve one purpose isn’t a compliment at all but that is solely why the Nokia 215 can still establish standing in the world of smartphones.
All it does is to make calls, which justifies the super-cheap Nokia 215 price of $30 (Rs. 2,419).
Since it does nothing else than just calls, its standards are simple – be sturdy, make good calls, and be cheap.
However, the Nokia 215 is far from being a phone for all parts of the world. Since it works on the 1,800 and 900 MHz bands which found mainly in Africa and Asia, some parts of Europe and the Middle East.
It can operate in some nations in Latin America but unfortunately, not North America. The phone will work in Australia and the UK, but it’s highly unlikely it will become common there as it has neither 3G nor 4G.
People in countries where the Nokia 215 can operate can consider it the ideal device for the elderly or children. Those who have already had their primary smartphone can keep it as a spare.
While it doesn’t do much, there is always part of the market for this kind of phone.
Design And Build
Of course, you can’t expect a modern look nor shiny appearance with the Nokia 215. Design-wise, the phone has exactly the look users would want – a sturdy, short, and thin form. Its dimensions are 116x50x12.9mm and its weight is merely 78.4g.
The back can be taken off to reveal the microSD card slot and the battery. The round edges make it a comfort to hold in your hand and the compact build means it can be slipped right into any pocket.
The Nokia 215 has a matte finish and can be a bit slippery but for a phone this small, that isn’t a problem at all.
Nokia 215 display measures 2.4 inches and has a resolution of 320x240-pixel. The screen does have support for 262,000 colors, which is a step forward from the era of black and white.
The navigation relies on a four-way directional pad and two soft keys. Some other keys you need to know about is one to silence the phone, and another for power/end. All of the buttons are made from rubber and decently responsive.
Nokia 215 does have a camera on the rear but it’s merely a basic 0.3-megapixel lens. There is no flash to be found but you have a torch (flashlight) right next to the headphone jack and the charging port.
Users have the choice to acquire the phone in white, black, bright green, and neon color.
Navigation And Apps
The OS on the Nokia 215 is super simple and straightforward. The Go-To key is for opening features like the flashlight or camera. Pressing the Menu key and you have access to contacts, call log, alarm clock, and music player.
You do have access to the Internet but not in the way you think. The phone has support for 2G and pages will be loaded at a very slow speed.
There is a messaging app and a well-loved FM radio. The number of Nokia 215 games is limited. Microsoft’s Bing search is present and pre-loaded on the phone.
There are apps allowing you to view videos and photos and when you want to know the weather, the phone has a program for that.
