Despite being active throughout the year, the Korean phone maker LG hasn’t really had a successful year in the smartphone industry. Not only its high-end smartphones have not stood out but also the mid-range LG phones haven’t been that successful either.
LG is reportedly laying out the company’s roadmap in 2019, and it will most likely start the year with the announcement of its new mid-range smartphone, dubbed LG Q9.
Packed with a Snapdragon 660 processor as well as 4GB of RAM, the phone will surely a new addition to the affordable segment. It will also feature a 6.1-inch notched display and most likely be introduced at the CES 2019 in Las Vegas in a few weeks from now.
LG is also expected to introduce a new flagship phone called LG G9 sometime in March, but it will come without the much anticipated 5G connectivity. That is mostly due to a new flagship with a different name is reportedly set to launch in March or April next year in the Korean and the U.S markets supporting 5G connectivity.
However, it is still unclear whether the 5G smartphone will launch as an addition to the current LG V-series or it with be a separate lineup. We are also not sure where the LG G8 will exactly be introduced as it could be MWC 2019 or other events.
And for the rumored first LG foldable phone, it seems like we might have to wait a little bit longer until Q3 2019 and this can be good news for its rival Samsung as the Samsung foldable is expected to be up for sale sometime in the first half of next year. By releasing its foldable phone much earlier than the LG counterpart, Samsung can have more time to improve and fix its phone.
And that also could be why LG isn’t rushing to launch its own foldable device as to ensure stability and safety.
