Previously, Xiaomi Redmi M1908C3IC that has been granted the certification of TENAA is said to be the Redmi 8. But recently, rumour has it that this phone is actually the Redmi 8A.
Accordingly, the leak includes a handful of real-time images of the phone prototype. Thanks to these images, we could know more about the phone design and its key specifications.

The source confirmed that the phone is really the Redmi 8A. Additionally, the Redmi M1908C3IH that is clearly showcased in a leaked image is a variant of the phone spotted on the database of TENAA with model number M1908C3IC.

Furthermore, the source also suggested that the phone will bear the codename “Olive” and run Android 9.0 Pie-based MIUI 9.7. Under the hood, the handset will come with a Snapdragon 439 SoC like its predecessor – the Redmi 7A. In terms of memory, the phone will feature 4GB RAM + 64GB internal storage. Another screenshot image in the leak confirmed that the handset will pack with a 5,000mAh battery.

In terms of design, the device will feature a dewdrop notch on the phone's front. The rear panel of the phone is made of glossy plastic and has a red finish. Additionally, there is a black strip in the middle of the back that houses a dual-camera setup, a Redmi logo, and a fingerprint sensor.

Though the leak confirms it is the 8A, it is probably not true as the 7A was just unveiled in May and available for sale from June. So we still need to wait to see whether the phone is the Redmi 8A or not.

Nevertheless, we’re totally impressed with the specifications even when the chipset remains unchanged. As you may know, this isn’t the first time that Redmi is launching a device with a similar SoC as the previous model. Both the Redmi Note 5 and Note 6 Pro unveiled in 2018 are powered by a Snapdragon 636 SoC but are different in other aspects.
