In terms of the phone design, the vanilla Huawei P30’s chin is thinner than its predecessor and its Pro variant as well. Yu Chengdong, Huawei’s Consumer Business CEO, states that Huawei could have provided a smaller chin.

He revealed that Huawei was able to provide thinner chin on the P30’s front display, but the company did not do that because thinner chin could have affected user experience adversely. According to his explanation, if there is not any border at the bottom, the display can inadvertently get pressed every time users slide from the phone bottom.

In addition, the CEO said that paying attention to minimizing side bezels is more important than trying to reduce bottom chin, which implies that Huawei is also focusing on this at present.
