Huawei Surpasses Samsung To Become World's Biggest Phone Vendor

Huawei, for the first time, surpasses Samsung and become the biggest smartphone vendor in the world in April 2020 despite being heavily punished by the US.

Huawei has faced a lot of difficulties after the ban from the US. The most obvious impact of the ban is that Huawei's newly launched smartphones are not allowed to install Google apps, which is a deal-breaker for users in Europe. However, Huawei has just pulled off a miracle, which many people think is impossible.

Huawei has faced a lot of issues due to the US ban.

This is the first time Huawei surpasses Samsung and become the biggest smartphone manufacturer in the world. According to a Counterpoint Research report, Huawei was the world's No. 1 smartphone manufacturer in April 2020. The Chinese giant accounted for 19% of the global smartphone market share, while Samsung ranked second with 17%.

This Huawei’s achievement was due to the patriotism of Chinese consumers. After the company was heavily punished by the US, Chinese consumers prioritized choosing domestic products over those from foreign countries.

Samsung's manufacturing plants, which were affected by the Covid-19 epidemic, had to suspend production in April. Sales of Samsung smartphones in India, the US and Europe dropped significantly.

Huawei is predicted to drop to 3rd or 4th position due to the recent ban from the US government.

The Chinese market was the first to be affected by the Covid-19 epidemic and started recovering since March and April. Thanks to that, Huawei's business also sees some growth.

Huawei's success is expected to not last long after the world economy began to recover. Samsung smartphone factories will resume production and provide new shipments of smartphones to the market.

In the future, Huawei is also seriously threatened when it can not cooperate with TSMC to produce chipsets for its smartphones. Therefore, Huawei's position may drop to 3rd or 4th in the near future.
