Huawei P30 Series Launched On March 26 To Feature Samsung-Made OLED Displays

Huawei will reportedly use OLED panels made by Samsung for its upcoming Huawei P30 and P30 flagships.

Huawei plans to unveil its Huawei P30 series in Paris on 26 March. The upcoming smartphones will be camera-focused flagships which this Chinese tech giant states that they can “rewrite the rules of mobile photography”. And according to a newly-released report, Samsung is expected to be the only OLED display supplier for the Huawei P30 Pro in 2019. So far, there has no official information about the presence of Samsung’s OLED display on the Huawei P30. However, the leaks hint that Huawei will use Samsung Display in 2019.

A post on Weibo over the week revealed that the Chinese giant has come to an agreement with Samsung for OLED display supply. Also, according to the post, the South Korean company are responsible for producing OLED displays for the Huawei P30 smartphones launched by the end of this month. The reasons why Huawei switched to Samsung are not clearly stated, but it could represent big adjustments in the performance of the Huawei P30 series and general competitiveness towards flagships from Apple and Samsung. One major cause for the switch is probably related to the fact that Samsung is considered as the largest and best OLED displays supplier for smartphones.
For instance, the Samsung Galaxy S10's Dynamic AMOLED display received the highest ever A+ rating of DisplayMate for its quality. The South Korean tech giant has its own technology as well as manpower for supplying satisfactory OLED displays.

Another reason probably is that the Chinese tech giant can get all needed OLED displays from only one supply instead of using two or many vendors. Many other reports also claimed that the agreement with Samsung probably helps prevent the upcoming smartphones from leaks, however, it has not actually materialized anyway. In case of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro unveiled by the end of 2018, Huawei got its OLED displays from LG and BOE. But the LG’s displays were reported to have problems soon after launch. In particular, some users found that the LG-made displays failed in a week. The OLED displays provided by LG supplier for the Huawei Mate 20 Pro's screen were plagued by a screen bleeding issue that caused greenish tint at the device's edges. Besides, Google also ditched LG in favor of Samsung to source the display for the Google Pixel 3 XL last year. Therefore, if the report is true, Huawei is really making a wise decision.

Before the upcoming launch, the renders of Huawei P30 and P30 Pro revealed almost their specifications. The P30 series will come with Kiron 980 chipset and run Android Pie-based EMUI9.1 custom interface. The standard P30 will sport a 6.1-inch display with Full HD+ resolution while the Pro variant will sport a 6.47-inch Full HD+ display.

Additionally, the Pro variant will feature a quad rear camera setup including a 3D Time-of-Flight sensor. In particular, the setup comprises of a 40MP f/1.6 primary sensor, a 20MP f/2.2 wide-angel sensor, and an 8MP telephoto sensor to support 10x lossless zoom. Both P30 series variants will have a 32MP front-facing camera, which is the largest selfie camera on the smartphone.
