Even in the launch event of Huawei's new Mate 40 series last night, DxOMark published its review of the Mate40 Pro's camera performance and unexpectedly ranked the device at No. 1 in its smartphone camera ranking, 3 points ahead of the second place, the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra.
One of the notable upgrades on the Mate 40 series this year comes from the camera. Huawei has equipped a terrific camera cluster for its latest offerings, especially the Pro+ version, which features the world's first periscope camera with 10x optical zoom. Meanwhile, the other versions also come with cameras with large sensor sizes and good lens quality as well as image processing algorithms to produce the final image that DxOMark claims to be the best.
Huawei Mate 40 Pro: Specifications & Price
The device features a curved 6.76-inch flex OLED panel with Quad-HD+ resolution, 90Hz refresh rate, 88-degree curvature, and a pill-shaped cutout at the top to house two selfies cameras. It is powered by the new Kirin 9000 chipset, which has 3x ARM-Cortex A77 cores clocked at 2.54GHz. It is built on a 5nm process and aided by a Mali G78 GPU and an integrated 5G modem.
In the camera department, it gets a quad-camera lens setup on the rear, including a Leica’s 50MP Sony IMX700 main camera with omnidirectional PDAF, Laser AF, a 20MP ultra-wide-angle camera with an f/1.8 aperture, a 12MP telephoto lens with 7x optical zoom and 5x periscope zoom. On the front, there are a 13MP main sensor and a ToF sensor housed inside the cutout for picturing selfies and video chats.
Software-wise, it still ships with Android 10-based EMUI 11 out of the box, but there won’t be Google services and apps. Finally, Huawei’s new flagship is fueled by a 4,400 mAh battery that supports multiple charging solutions, including 66W SuperCharge wired charging, 50W Huawei Wireless SuperCharge, and reverve wireless charging.
