The affordable Google Pixel 3A smartphone series was unveiled in May 2019. And search-engine giant Google claimed that the series’ photography capabilities are as good as the top-end Pixel 3 devices. Our review of this lineup also proved the good image output of this new series as other flagships of Google. Recently, DxOMark has announced the 3A’s scores, which is only one score lower than that of its larger variant. The difference is due to the pricier devices gained a higher score video test. Accordingly, the phone gained 103 points in photography test, which is similar to the score of the 3.

Though the 3A’s price is half lower than the one of the 3, the photography capabilities are nearly similar. If you are seeking the best affordable phone with best photo output, the 3A is an ideal option. The phone’s largest selling point is the camera. Even with a single sensor, the device still can capture impressive images, which are better than several same/higher-priced smartphones with dual cameras or triple cameras.

According to the DxOMark benchmark, the 3A captured the same or a bit better images than iPhone XR’s single camera. As per the tests carried out by the site, the Pixel 3A gained a higher score than the Pixel 3 in color and noise segments. This is due to reduced chromatic noise and better control in white balance in post-processing. Regarding video department, the device gained 3 points, which is lower than the 3, however, it still offers less noise in the low-light videos.

Both Pixel 3A and 3A XL sport a 12MP Sony sensor on the back with an aperture of f/1.8, dual-LED flash, OIS, and Dual-pixel PDAF. However, the company didn’t equip the Pixel Visual Core on the 3A, which is used to enhance photo processing performance. Therefore, the 3A phone takes a bit longer for imaging processing. Anyway, it is still an impressive smartphone with affordable pricing for those who are fond of photography and a better choice than iPhone XR.
