Galaxy Z Flip Hands-On: An Improvement Over The Galaxy Fold

Galaxy Z Flip has proven that the second time is the charm for Samsung with a refined look and a more welcoming attitude from the public

The Galaxy Fold is not something you can be confident tossing into the same bag with your wallet and keys. And with the price tag of Rs. 164,999, not many users can get their hands on one.

Introduced a year after the Galaxy Fold, The Galaxy Z Flip is another story. It has proven that the second time is the charm for xnxubd Samsung with a refined look and a more welcoming attitude from the public.

Since there have been no detailed reviews to count on, not many people have the confidence to claim that Samsung has made it this time, but the Z Flip is definitely a step forward for the South Korean tech giant regarding foldable devices.

So here is a quick recap of what is better with the Galaxy Z Flip:

  • A reduced price.
  • A refined form factor.
  • Durability

The Z Flip features a glass screen and while Samsung did not go into details about the specs, the Z Flip feels more durable and solid than its predecessor. What many care about now is the folding mechanism, will the Z Flip be as fragile as the Galaxy Fold the first time it was introduced last year?

The answer is no. Galaxy Z Flip can be opened at different angles but closing it requires some more force than the 2019’s Fold, which is a good sign of durability. When the phone is closed, there is no creak, fortunately. However, the problem of a crease has not been fixed.

The phone sports a large 6.7-inch screen but when folded up, it fits in most pockets, which is an improvement as the Galaxy Fold is still pretty long when closed.

When the Galaxy Z Flip is closed, you will lose lots of handy functionalities. There is a small window at the bottom, which is useful for a quick check of battery life or time. You can browse different things there too but it is still not a full display.

The power button doubles as a fingerprint sensor and if you tap on it twice, the small display will become a selfie screen. The usefulness of this feature is limited as all it tells you is whether the image is framed well. And that is it.

At the price of Rs. 111,000, the Galaxy Z Flip is not too expensive compared to the Rs. 108,290 Motorola Razr. Since the Z Flip seems like a more robust device, Motorola might want to cut the price a little bit to stay competitive here.

Along with the Galaxy Z Flip is the introduction of the Samsung Galaxy S20 lineup. Another star of the show is the Galaxy S20 Ultra with its impressive high-end specs. However, it comes as a surprise for many that the Z Flip lacks the 5G option, which is odd for a device that are supposed to be future-proofed.

With the Z Flip, it seems like Samsung is trying to make it a more appealing option than the Galaxy Fold with a more sturdy structure and a lower price.

Overall, Samsung is still far from making foldable phones a mainstream option for the general public. However, with the advancements the Z Flip has made, maybe two or three generations from now, it will get there.

The Galaxy Z Flip will be available on the 14th of February.
