China's social network Weibo is spreading the image of a man being inspected for security at the airport. Next to it was a woman holding an iPad taken from this man's bag.
At first glance, it is hard to know why the picture has that much attention. But it turned out that the "unusual" thing was the man in this photo. That is Mr. Ren Zhengfei, CEO and founder of Huawei Technology Group (China).
We can’t confirm whether this iPad belongs to Mr. Ren Zhengfei or not. But his carrying of the iPad with him was criticized by Chinese social media users shortly thereafter.
"Turns out, Mr. Ren Zhi Fei does not use Huawei products, but Apple’s one instead. What does it say?", "Patriot is not expressed in words, but actions" ... are the comments of some Weibo account. Meanwhile, some other users think this is normal because Ren is like other Apple customers.
This is not the first time people know that his family likes Apple products - one of Huawei's biggest rivals. Ren talked about his love for US giant Apple with Chinese media in May this year.
According to Bloomberg News, when Canadian police arrested Meng Wanzhou, Ren’s daughter and Huawei's CFO, they discovered she was using an iPhone 7 Plus, a MacBook Air, and an iPad Pro.
In the past, in response to nationalism & calls to boycott Apple products in China after Huawei being listed by the US as a commercial blacklist, Ren once said that he would be against any plan to ban Apple products in China. He also called Apple "teacher".
“As a student, why go against my teacher? Never.” - Huawei founder said in an interview with Bloomberg News.
