Even though Samsung did their best to convey an astonishing unveiling for its Galaxy Fold – the foldable smartphone, it’s inevitable that people will notice flaws on such a new kind of device.
This setup makes the crease almost invisible
First and foremost, the Galaxy Fold is much thicker compared to current smartphones and its quite weird how the phone folds. Notably, both the phone and its rival Huawei Mate X have a large crease stretching in the middle of the foldable screen.
When the phone was announced at the 2019 Mobile World Congress, reporters could not get their own hands on the device or the display. Samsung decided to exhibit its foldable phone in a reflective case instead, making the crease invisible.
So what’s the deal with the crease?
In the photo below, the crease is a little hard to see though you can still spot a long line running along the display. The crease is more visible when looking from other angles, as in a tweet posted by Rich Brome, editor in chief of Phone Scoop. His photos not only make the crease seen more clearly but also shows that it’s relatively big.
In its promotion for the Galaxy Fold, Samsung released an image that reminds us of Apple’s promotional photo for the iPhone X which hid the notch on the screen’s top. Samsung took advantage of the butterfly to make the crease in the middle of the screen invisible.
Anyone can tell that Samsung doesn’t want the public to worry that the furrow in the middle of the phone will distort the picture. Nevertheless, the device that Samsung showcased at MWC 2019 appeared to be flawless even when we directly saw an engineer using it, maybe the crease only becomes visible at a specific angle.
Anyway, expecting a foldable phone with true seamlessness is too much for early devices, not to mention those who are really interested in foldable phones don’t make a large market and they are unlikely to be put off just by a crease.
