In the smartphone world, the Galaxy S20 Ultra is just an anomaly. But with its $1,400 price tag, it is one of the most expensive smartphones. Even Apple, which is famously known for selling its iPhones at a high price, has released a smartphone that has a starting price of $1,400. Its most expensive smartphone, the iPhone 11 Pro Max has a price tag of $1,100.
So why the Galaxy S20 Ultra is so expensive?
A larger screen, obviously

Compared to the regular S20’s 6.2-inch screen and the S20 Plus’ 6.7-inch screen, the Galaxy S20 Ultra’s 6.9-inch screen is huge.
But except for its size, there is nothing more special. There is no attractive additional feature. It is practically identical to the S20 and S20 Plus’ screens.
A bigger phone means a bigger battery

Big phones often have big batteries. While the S20 houses a 4,000mAh battery and the S20 Plus a 4,500mAh battery, the Galaxy S20 Ultra’s battery is gigantic at 5,000mAh.
Of course, battery size is not everything. For example, although the battery of the Galaxy S20 Ultra is bigger than that of the S20 Plus, the large screen of the S20 Ultra needs more power than the slightly smaller screen of the S20 Plus. And what does this mean? This means that both devices have almost the same battery life despite the different battery sizes.
On Samsung’s official websites, there is no information regarding the expected battery life of each model.
A never-known-before 108-megapixel camera

Compared to the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20 Plus’ 12-megapixel camera, the whopping 108-megapixel camera of the Galaxy S20 Ultra is something that has never been seen before.
However, the S20 Ultra does not always shoot 108-megapixel images. By default, for most well-lit shots, those 108 megapixels are compacted into 12 megapixels. But you still get to choose to take 108-megapixel photos if you want to. The 108-megapixel camera allows you to captures more details. You can crop the photo while not losing many details.
For low-light shots, compared to smartphones with fewer megapixels, the 108 megapixels are combined to absorb more light, resulting in better low-light shots.
10x optical zoom and 100x digital zoom zoomed lens

A prism of mirrors gives the zoomed lens of the Galaxy S20 Ultra 10x optical zoom. This means when you try to zoom up to 10x, there will be little to no detail loss. 10x is impressive as most phones have 3x optical zoom as maximum.
The special zoomed lens can go as far as 100x digital zoom. However, the quality of the photos taken with 100x digital zoom is rather unimpressive as they look totally undetailed and blurry.

A 40-megapixel selfie camera

While the Galaxy S20 and S20 Plus both have a 10-megapixel selfie camera, the Galaxy S20 Ultra sports a 40-megapixel selfie camera. And with this, you can either take ultra-detailed selfies or getting better selfies when you are in low-light conditions.
The fastest 5G network

Both the Galaxy S20 Plus and the Galaxy S20 Ultra support all three different types of 5G networks which include the super-fast “mmWave” 5G networks.
In contrast, the regular Galaxy S20 doesn’t support the mmWave 5G networks. Instead, it only supports the mid-band and low-band 5G networks, which are slower.
However, it may not be possible for you to connect to a 5G network, using any of these Galaxy S20 phones since 5G networks haven’t been widely available yet.
The Galaxy S20 Ultra is almost identical to other Galaxy S20 models

Apart from the six things we have listed above, the Galaxy S20 is almost identical to other Galaxy S20 models. It is also built using the same metal and glass. And the S20 Ultra isn’t more powerful as all three phones have the same specs which include the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865, 12GB RAM and a storage of 128 GB.
This means that the overall experience will be pretty much the same for all three models. And it is up to you whether you will be willing to pay $1,400 for these six features that differentiate the Galaxy S20 Ultra from its three siblings.
