If you’re trying to lure people into long-term sign-up to a subscription service, a smart way is to hook people as early as you can and to ensure that you can make stay over the long-term. A great deal of services has applied this method. YouTube is the latest platform to offer discounted plans, especially for students. This offer will be for YouTube’s music service subscription and ad-free version.
The half-price student was first offered by Spotify a few years ago. Then last year, the company added Hulu and Showtime to its student bundle.
In 2016, Apple Music also followed this route. In a company blog post, YouTube said that instead of having to pay a normal price of $11.99 per month, students would only have to pay $6.99.
The price will be $4.99 a month instead of $9.99 for YouTube Music Premium service. Early birds who make a subscription by January 31st can lock in a bargain price of $5.99.
According to the post from Youtube, a variety of offerings is included, from official albums, singles, and playlists to music videos, live performances, remixes, covers and more, with no ad, background and offline mode. With YouTube Premium, subscribers will have an ad-free experience across Youtube and also access to YouTube Originals.
YouTube offer seems to be more attractive compared to similar offers from Spotify, Pandora, and many other services providers. You can watch live versions of your favorite songs and covers that you can not find anywhere else. There will be no ad breaks interruption. You can also download tracks for offline listening and keep listening in the background.
Subscribers who are students can sign up for the offer as long as they are full-time students at any accredited U.S university or college.
For other countries, this deal will be offered some time in the future. It will be interesting to see how this offer can give YouTube’s subscription service a boost. For now, the number of people among YouTube’s 1.8 billion subscribers who have actually subscribed to its premium service still remains undisclosed.
