Earlier this year, YouTube started testing an AR-powered feature called Beauty Try-On but it was rolled out selectively. Thankfully, YouTube has just expanded its availability to other users. With the help of the new feature, users can easily “try on” any lipstick color through digital tools. As part of that, users can take a lot of advantages from the Masthead and TrueView Discovery ads displayed on YouTube app on both Android and iOS devices.
In a word, Masthead ads are YouTube videos that will auto-play when you open the mobile app for the first time. Along with a usual list of recommendations within the interface, the Masthead ad will sit at the header of the page. Meanwhile, TrueView Discovery ads will appear at the top of the search bar beyond other search results as well as in the “Up next” section when you tap through to a video. To let users notify them as advertisements, both two types will carry the yellow “AD” labels.
Once users choose to use the tool, YouTube’s interface will be split into two halves: one plays the video while the other will use the camera to detect your appearance and apply AR filters. From that, it’s so much easier for users to check out any shade of lipstick they want in a timely manner. More conveniently, they can directly purchase a product through the all-in-one YouTube app. All of these won't cost users as much time as they did have to spend.
YouTube is witnessing the fast-growing demand in beauty and fashion. Needless to say, stiff competitions between YouTube and other rivals in applying the AR technology have already been heated up, especially Instagram. Aside from new AR tools, the company also introduced a special homepage for fashion lovers.
