Xiaomi Corp recently launched Mi Store on Wheels, a project to bring its handsets to the remotest parts of India amid the growing resentment toward China and Chinese products.
Xiaomi is currently the market leader in India and its traveling stores will follow specific routes and make a stop wherever the locals gather for their street fairs or haats.
On a release on Monday, the company said these traveling retail stores would also sell CCTV cameras, smart TVs, sunglasses, earphones, and power banks.
Despite the tension between the two countries and the phone shipment shrinking by half, the June quarter still sees Xiaomi holding on tight to their top position in India’s smartphone market.
However, the COVID-19 pandemic and the government’s lockdown order have made it impossible for phone brands to maintain their usual flow of customers to their stores. And when users can’t come to the brand, the brand has to come to them.
According to Muralikrishnan B, Mi India’s chief operating officer, the MSoW outlets are safe for consumers and as Xiaomi has India’s largest single-brand retail network, the company is determined to bring Mi Store experience to the remotest parts of the country.
According to Xiaomi, the company currently has 3,000 Mi Stores, 4,000 format retail partners, and 8,000 Mi preferred partners.
