A group administrator from WhatsApp was arrested after he added a woman to the group where he and other group members shared pornographic videos. The woman told the police that she started receiving these videos after she was added to the WhatsApp group. 24-year-old Mustaq Ali Shaikh from West Bengal was identified as the accused.
The police also mentioned that the arrest of this young man can be a warning for other people to be careful when adding people to a messaging platform and sharing such content. The accused might be sentenced to five years in jail for adding the woman to the group without asking for her permission.
Times of India reported that, in her complaint file that was sent to the police, the woman whose job is a housewife, said that she was added to a group called “Triple XXX” back in September. At first, she thought she was pranked by her friends. After that, she was shocked when she started receiving vulgar videos. She immediately filed for a police complaint, stating that all the number in that WhatsApp group was unknown to her.
After the complaint, the Mumbai police tracked the mobile number of the administrator. It is reported that a team had been set up to arrest the accused from the state. However, through mobile phone tracking, it showed that the number was on roaming around the Mumbai area.
The accused has been put into custody under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections and Sections 67 and 67-A of the IT Ac for offending a woman’s modesty. During the interrogation, the accused apologized and said that the woman might have been added to the group by accident as he didn’t know the woman. He had mistaken her number as his brother-in-law’s number. He said that it was his friend who had formed the WhatsApp and convinced him that there was no female member.
His mobile phone was confiscated for investigation. Data from his mobile phone have been gathered by forensic teams. Other group members who could serve as witnesses are also being contacted. Police said that Shaikh might face a charge of five years in prison under the IT ACT, 2000.
