As the idea of streaming games catches on, Valve is the latest company to join the market. This news was released by Github and what its evidence is the partner site code of Valve, which mentions cloud gaming.
Valve has long been a big player on the PC gaming platform but its position has been threatened by tech giants like Google, Sony, and Microsoft with cloud gaming projects. Since this type of gaming does not call for much hardware to start, it opens the door for a larger number of users to join.
Cloud gaming can reduce load times, as there is no need to wait for the computer to boot or applying updates. Another benefit is that users can have access to the games via a wider range of devices.
There is no denial of the potential of cloud gaming and the companies that enter the market early can gain a lot. Valve might be removed from the picture when fewer players go through Steam to play games.
These reasons make Valve’s decision to venture to the new market seem like a wise move. The company has built for itself a large fan base so loyal to Steam that they may get angry when a game is released exclusively on a different store.
With Steam Cloud Gaming, Valve can keep users’ loyalty amid the appealing of other platforms that promise convenience and little hardware to start.
Many PC gamers are still reluctant when it comes to switching to cloud gaming, as the latency will be created more than when they play from a computer. However, all of the benefits can outweigh the disadvantages, a prospect that Valve cannot afford to ignore.
