Uber Acquires An AI Firm To Develop Its Technology For Autonomous Cars

The US transportation network company Uber has bought Mighty AI – the Seattle-based computer vision company – to boost its technology efforts for autonomous cars.

On June 26, Uber announced that the US transportation network company has bought Mighty AI – the Seattle-based computer vision company – to boost its technology efforts for autonomous cars.

Both of these company have revealed any specific details in the acquisition terms. However, Uber said that about 40 employees of Mighty AI would come and take part in the advanced technology group of the ride-hailing company, which has developed plans for self-driving taxis.
In term of Mighty AI, the startup focuses on computer vision, a part of artificial intelligence field which is chosen to label, as well as help developers to get a better vision of the surroundings of cars which will be probably autonomous.
According to the Uber VP of software engineering Jon Thomason,



In a statement published by Uber, the Chief Executive of Mighty AI Daryn Nakhuda said,

Uber has been the world-leading ride-hailing company and in the upcoming time, it is planning to move into new advanced technologies which will be applied for autonomous cars and maybe flying cars.
The news concerning Uber’s acquisition was revealed after the iDevice manufacturer Apple had an announcement on its acquisition of Drive.ai, a self-driving tech company founded in 2015, in an effort to boost its development in this sector.
According to the first report from Axios, the price of the Apple deal would be lower than the $77 million (equivalent to Rs 319.08 million).
As per Apple, the company hasn’t published any detail on its transaction.
