Tumblr has been officially removed from the App Store for having content related to child pornography posted by its users.
Tumblr has long been known as a platform for young people to enjoy the liberal lifestyle without so many limits in content posted such vaping, tattooed models, etc. But somehow, contents related to child pornography passed through the censorship stage and were posted on this platform. This has made Apple very angry and removed Tumblr from its application store.
Tumblr banned from Apple Store
A spokesman for Tumblr commented on the post, explaining the incident. He said that they have built a safe and comfortable environment on the platform for everyone, they do not tolerate anyone who violates the rules, especially those that spread the abuse and sexually exploited contents of children. This is not only Tumblr's concern but also other entities' within the industry, and to control the contents posted on the platform, Tumblr has collaborated and got help from various partners like the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Every image uploaded to Tumblr has to be checked based on databases to detect child sexual abuse images.
A “routine audit” discovered that users on the platform were sharing pornographic material that was previously unknown. Tumblr removed this content immediately as soon as they found out.
Tumblr sees content protection as one of the toughest challenges for large scaled social network builders. Tumblr currently focuses heavily on evaluating the next steps and improving its content-based security, which is a top priority right now.
Apple has complied with the relevant laws to remove Tumblr from the App Store. Tumblr is working hard to bring this app back to iOS users.
Tumblr is currently owned by Verizon and it has up to 447 million active blogs. Users can create public or private accounts on its platform. Its work is essentially a conduit for writing content, images, and videos from one person to others. In particular, Tumblr monthly has over 500 million visitors. In 2013, Yahoo acquired Tumblr, although from then Tumblr has not had any breakthroughs like other social networking sites, it is still a basic blogging platform that many young generations enjoy.
