On May 08, the Chinese company TikTok made an announcement that its media app for sharing and creating short videos regained the top spot on the App Store, as well as the top free application in the “social” category of the Play Store. The news came only a few days after the Madurai Bench by the Madras High Court agreed to remove the ban on TikTok.
As the leader of Entertainment Partnerships, TikTok India, Sumedhas Rajgopal stated,
The ByteDance-owned short-video creating app now welcomes more than 120 million active users per month in the Indian market. However, in April 2019, the Madras High Court approved a temporary order that didn’t allow the mobile app to cite pornographic and misleading content.
After advocate Muthukumar filed the case, the Madurai Bench took all aspects into consideration and decided to remove the ban on the application. However, the media company from China must be committed not to upload pornographic videos on its platform.
One more notable thing, users couldn’t still download the app on both App Store and Play Store before April 25 – one day after the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court lifted its ban.
According to confidential sources from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), after TikTok received the official directive from the court, the technology companies would soon receive the communication.
