BCIs or brain-computer interfaces are devices which provide a direct communication line between a computer and the brain.
Essentially, they achieve something that is thought to only appear in sci-fi movies: mind-reading. In recent years, research into this particular aspect has seen great improvements. At the moment, we even have BCIs capable of turning humans’ thoughts into audible sentences or letting you play telepathic Tetris.

But the tech hasn’t reached the stage where it can be applied widely. However, Xinhua reports that a new chip from China might finally make mainstream adoption a reality.
“Brain Talker”, which is a computer chip specifically designed for BCIs, is a collaborating product between the state-owned China Electronics Corporation and Tianjin University.
In a press release, researcher Ming Dong from Tianjin University said:

Ming thinks that with this newly-unveiled chip, BCIs can go beyond the labs and into mainstream adoption.

He continued:

Cheng Longlong, China Electronics Corporation's data scientist, said that scientists would continue working on this chip to enhance its performance for wider use in different fields including education, gaming, medical treatment, and home life.
